Philosophy:

The convenient division of physical, emotional and spiritual obscures their essential integration.  As we begin to appreciate the impact of each area on the others, we may look for guidance to the practice of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine where the unity of mind/body/spirit has for thousands of years been axiomatic. Study of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians and other systems found in ancient texts sheds light on the treatment of psychological/emotional imbalances, and the integration of these with physical symptoms.

Experience:

Currently I am working in a variety of settings including Cloud 9 Therapeutic Massage and at the FIU Wellness Center one day a week treating students, alumni and staff.  I see private patients in other locations including home and clinic.

From September 2002 to February 2004 I was employed by Dadeland Primary Care, a clinic which provides care to accident victims.  Along with treating patients on an ongoing basis, I also provided initial, follow-up, and final visit reports, ordered xrays and made appropriate referrals.

For two years I served as an Acupuncture Physician at the Quan Yin Medical Center in Miami Shores, FL.  This Center treats patients of all ages with a wide variety of complaints and medical conditions using both acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs as well as cupping, moxabustion, and other healing modalities included in Chinese medicine.

Prior to my entrance to Acupuncture I worked in the health care field, in areas of health care planning, accounting/financial, and administration.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which also includes modalities such as moxabustion and cuppping. Developed over 2500 years ago, this system encompasses both diagnosis and treatment of disease. Treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into points along Meridian pathways (energy channels). Recent research has confirmed the existence and location of these points.

TCM recognizes that symptoms are part of a larger and interconnected whole. It is not possible to treat parts without affecting the whole; conversely, the whole must be treated in order to treat the symptoms.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Qi (pronounced "chee) is life energy that flows through the body in a network of channels called Meridians. As long as Qi Flow is smooth and sufficient, there is health. Should Qi be disrupted, for example by trauma, stress, poor nutrition, environmental or genetic factors, illness may result.

Acupuncture is a method of balancing and restoring the free flow of Qi, thereby promoting health.

Acupuncture has been recognized by both the World Health Organization and the treating a wide variety of illnesses.

Musculoskeletal Disorders – tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, TMJ, sciatica, low back pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, joint pain
Respiratory Disorders – colds & flu, asthma, bronchitis
Gastrointestinal Disorders – diarrhea, constipation, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion
Circulatory Disorders – hypertension, high cholesterol, arteriosclerosis
Gynecological Disorders – menstrual irregularity, PMS, infertility, menopausal symptoms

Acupuncture is safe when performed by a licensed professional. Needles are individually packaged, sterile, and disposed of after one use.

Acupuncture needles are about the thickness of a hair, nothing like the hypodermic needles used to give shots. The sensation of insertion is often described as “tickling”, “tingling”, or “pulling”.

Most people find acupuncture very relaxing, often sleeping during treatment. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for your appointment, relax, and feel free to ask your Acupuncture Physician any questions you may have about your treatment.
