CONSTIPATION
IS A SERIOUS HEALTH CONCERN.
It can lead
to fatigue, depression, bloating, gas, obesity, bad breath, foul body
odor, hemorrhoids, PMS, bowel obstruction, spastic colon and more!
Constipation,
a condition not easily discussed, is one of the most common medical
complaints in the United States. Constipation
can occur at any age, and is more common among individuals who resist
the urge to move their bowels at their body’s signal.
Constipation is more common in women than in men and is
especially apt to occur during pregnancy.
Age alone does not increase the frequency of constipation, but
elderly people (specially women) are more likely to suffer from
constipation.
Take
a constipation test:
Do you often have fewer than one bowel movement per day?
Do you often have a hard time passing stools
Is
there pain?
If the
answer is “YES” to any of these questions, please consult your
physician and advice him/her that you will also be getting abdominal
massage therapy (excluding pregnant women).
Constipation
usually arises from insufficient amounts of fiber and fluid in the diet,
and results when waste mater moves too slowly through the large
intestine. Some other
causes are pregnancy (abdominal massage is not indicated), lack of
exercise, nervous tension, stress and the side effects of some drugs.
Elimination of wastes should take place every 18 to 20 hours,
after this harmful toxins spread through the body and side effects such
as headaches, skin blemishes, insomnia, bad breath and indigestion will
follow. Consult with your
doctor for natural laxatives and treatment.
Abdominal
massage has helped constipation and should be a part of the entire
therapeutic massage, ask your massage therapist.
I have had many satisfied and relieved clients after a deep
abdominal massage, they have reported bowel movements within 1 hour
after the abdominal massage. I
also instruct my clients to perform self abdominal massage daily and
stimulate the normal peristalis (normal movement) of the large
intestine. Relaxation
during this process is essential since the peristalis movement is a
function of the parasympathetic nervous system.
If you have severe abdominal pain an abdominal massage is not indicated. Always consult with your physician.
